How to use this calculator

Enter your current salary in the first field and choose whether it's hourly, monthly or annual. Then enter your raise — either as a percentage or a fixed dollar amount — and hit calculate. You'll see your new salary broken down across every pay period.

How to calculate a salary increase

  1. Take your current annual salary (e.g. $52,000)
  2. Multiply it by your raise percentage divided by 100 (e.g. 5% = 0.05)
  3. Add that number to your original salary
  4. Example: $52,000 + ($52,000 x 0.05) = $54,600

To go the other way — if you know the raise amount but want the percentage — divide the raise by your current salary and multiply by 100. A $2,600 raise on a $52,000 salary is exactly 5%.

What counts as a good pay raise?

3-5% is the standard annual merit increase at most large employers. Below 3% means your real purchasing power likely fell — US inflation averaged around 2.5-3% over the past decade. A raise of 7% or more is strong and usually tied to a promotion, a new title, or a change of employer.

If your raise is below inflation for two or three years in a row, that's the signal to start negotiating harder or exploring what the market pays. The calculator above lets you model different scenarios quickly — try 3%, 5% and 8% to see the difference over a year.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good salary increase percentage?
3-5% is average. Anything above 7% is strong, typically from a promotion or employer change. Below 3% usually loses ground against inflation.
How do I calculate my pay raise percentage?
Divide your raise amount by your current salary, then multiply by 100. A $2,500 raise on a $50,000 salary is 5%.
How much is a 5% raise on $50,000?
A 5% raise adds $2,500 per year, taking your salary to $52,500 annually or $4,375 per month.
What is the difference between a pay raise and a salary increase?
Nothing. Pay raise, salary increase, pay increase and salary raise all mean the same thing — your employer is paying you more.
